Officers from the department are allowed to grow a beard from the months of October to March as they raise money for various local non profit organizations. Last year the officers themselves donated and raised over 10,000 dollars that went to various charities. This included The Gloria Gemma Foundation, Pink Heals Rhode Island, Newport Little League, Island Youth Lacrosse, Operation Stand Down, Home Base, No Shave November, Special Olympics RI, amongst other.

Proceeds from this patch and 100 percent of the donations received will got to local non profit charities as well as local cancer charities.
